Raw sewage overflow found near Ann Arbor elementary school
(CBS DETROIT) - The city of Ann Arbor is conducting sampling after dried sewage and debris were found near an Ann Arbor elementary school Wednesday afternoon, officials said. The sewage was found behind Pittsfield Elementary School at a sanitary sewer manhole located in a grassy area near a city-owned manhole. The city investigated the situation but couldn't determine what caused the surcharge. The grassy area was cleaned, and public works staff used lime to neutralize any contamination."An estimated 75 gallons of raw sewage was released to the grassy area, ultimately flowing to the storm drain, which flows and daylights to Swift Run - near Whitewood and Norwood streets," city officials said. "This area is currently under evaluation for improvements as part of the design work for a Capital Improvement Project in the Pittsfield Village area to begin in 2025."Officials are working with the Washtenaw County Health Department to conduct upstream and downstream sampling for the presence of E. coli. They also alerted the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy about the incident. Because Swift Run flows into the Huron River, the city put up signs recommending boaters stay upstream from South Pond two days from Wednesday.

He shouldn’t have worried about opening day. “We sold out of mostly everything,” Mr. Smaili said. After customers cleaned out the cases of croissants and cookies, Nur Smaili took her exhausted husband home and they collapsed.

Minor League Recap - High Scoring Excitement in Lake County
TOL 3 - COL 4. The Columbus Clippers bested the Toledo Mud Hens (DET) Friday night. Triston McKenzie made his first start in AAA since being sent down. He started the game strong, striking out the side in 10 pitches. The rest of the night wasn’t as dominant; starting the 2nd with 2 walks, starting the 4th with a leadoff solo HR, a wild pitch in the 5th, and another solo HR in the top of the 6th before being replaced. But when Triston was on, the batters couldn’t touch him. Triston struck out 8 Toledo batters. McKenzie looked confident despite it all and hopefully this will give him the space to correct and adjust his mechanics so that he can rejoin the Guardians soon. McKenzie threw 85 pitches in 5.1 IP. He gave up 3 H, 3 R, and 2 BB.

More recruiting misses for Michigan football in 2025
So far, the momentum that Michigan football was able to build in the month of June has stalled a little bit in July after a run of recruiting misses. It started with Maxwell Roy and Hardy Watts. Roy is a four-star defensive lineman and at one point, Michigan football was trending as the favorite across the recruiting networks. However, Ohio State hosted Roy for an official visit and was able to turn things around in their direction.
Toledo native first in world to receive innovative new heart valve
For much of her life, Sandie Zaruca knew she had a leaky valve in her heart, but she never imagined that someday she would be helping pioneer her own treatment. In May, the 74-year-old Sylvania resident and former office supply store owner was the first in the world to receive a new type of heart valve, implanted by Dr. Michael Moront, a cardiothoracic surgeon at ProMedica Toledo Hospital. The bioprosthetic valve, called the Avalus Ultra, takes cow tissue and pairs it with medical-grade fabric and a special type of thermoplastic to replicate the function of a human heart valve. Dr. Moront, who was part of the team that helped develop the Avalus Ultra, said he felt comfortable performing the procedure.
