FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A man is dead after he was stabbed by his roommate with a kitchen knife on Thursday, according to the Fresno Police Department.
Officers say they responded to a call at a home near Dakota Avenue and Cedar Avenue in Fresno for a report of a stabbing around 8 p.m. When officers arrived, they found the victim on the floor of the residence. According to officers, the victim suffering from stab wounds died due to his injuries.
According to the police department, the victim and the suspect were involved in a fight before the stabbing. They say that’s when the suspect grabbed a knife from the kitchen and proceeded to stab the victim. The victim was identified on Friday as 26-year-old Dale Whitley. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say the suspect, named as 53-year-old Jon Palomino, fled the scene but was caught by officers down the street from the residence and detained.
Detectives say they are working to establish a motive for the deadly stabbing but currently describe the incident as unprovoked. They have established that both victim and suspect lived together with several other men – and the attack took place in the kitchen.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Fresno Police Department.
