FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A new school year is about to begin, and Fresno Unified wants to remind families of the importance of being up to date on regular school immunizations.

According to officials in the district, all students entering school must meet state immunization requirements. Students entering kindergarten and seventh grade must provide proof of updated immunizations.

Officials say the district’s Health Services Department will host a free walk-in clinic at Tioga Middle School on Aug. 10 for seventh graders only, Aug. 12, Aug. 13, Aug. 17, and Aug. 19-23 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The clinic is in Room 35 at Tioga, 3232 E. Fairmont Ave., in Fresno.

The Tioga clinics are for Medi-Cal and uninsured students only. Students with private insurance should call their doctor or a pharmacy that administers immunizations like CVS, Rite Aid, Target, and Costco.

Immunizations and sports physicals will be offered at two Fresno Unified campuses this summer:

Herrera Elementary School – United Health Care Center at 5090 E. Church Ave., in Fresno will be offering sports physicals and immunizations on July 18 and July 23 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Gaston Middle School Health and Wellness Center at 1120 E. Church Ave., will be offering sports physicals on July 20 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and immunizations on Aug. 9 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

For immunization, the district officials ask for parents to bring an immunization card. For sports physicals, bring the form provided by the student’s coach. If no insurance is provided, sports physicals are $15.

Officials say for kindergarten entry, all students are required to be up to date on vaccines against polio, diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough) and tetanus (Dtap), mumps, measles and rubella (MMR), hepatitis B, and varicella. Students entering seventh grade must show proof of current vaccination against pertussis and have a second varicella immunization.
