FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – The Chinatown Fresno Foundation is looking for people with an ambitious business idea – and they want to help make it happen.

The Chinatown Fresno Foundation’s Project Director Jan Minami says ever since the foundation started they have work on business retention and recruitment. Through a grant, Minami says they have created a “Pop-Up Place” for six small businesses for six months.

“Essentially it’s like a hub for these businesses without the walls,” Minami says, “We will market the Pop-Up Place, we will invite customers, and we will paint stores on the ground on the concrete too.”

Minami says there are very few rules for which businesses can move into the Pop-Up Place.

“We have a woman who wants to start a bookstore, we have a woman who wants to start a gallery,” Minami said. “We’re looking for someone with the business idea and the perseverance to make it.”

The six businesses selected for the Pop-Up Place will not only have the first six months of their rent paid for, but they will also be eligible for workshops the foundation will organize to help the business owners realize their business’ fullest potential.

“It’s pretty exciting because we’re just hoping to get a group that is willing to work together to support each other and build businesses in Chinatown,” Minami said.

The Pop-Up Place project is still in its infancy and as more applicants are selected, more information about it will be made available, according to Minami.
