FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A woman is dead after she was struck by a train in Fresno on Thursday, according to the Fresno Police Department.

Officers say at around 9 a.m. they responded to the area of Clinton Avenue and Highway 99 for a report of a woman dead on the train tracks. They arrived to find a woman in her late 30s dead at the scene. Officers say she had sustained injuries to the left side of her body.

According to police, the victim was by herself and no foul play is suspected. It is unknown if the person was homeless or how she got onto the train tracks.

“It is possible that she did find one of the breaks in the fence and that’s possibly how she gained access to the train tracks here,” said Officer Luke Tran.

The identity of the person killed was not officially released.
