IDENTIFIED: Man dead after central Fresno shooting

FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – The man who died after a double shooting in central Fresno on Thursday night has been identified by the Fresno Police Department.

Police say on Thursday just after 10:30 p.m., officers responded to the area of East Woodward Avenue and Ninth Street for a two-round Shot Spotter activation.

As officers were responding to the scene, a 911 call came in reporting there were two gunshot victims.

According to police, they found a man who has been identified as 21-year-old Darius Lopez, with two gunshot wounds to his upper and lower body. Lopez was transported to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment. He later died at the hospital.

There was also a 19-year-old female who had a gunshot wound to her lower body, police say she was also transported to CRMC for treatment. She is now listed in stable condition.

Police say that detectives responded to the scene and learned that Lopez and the female were inside a vehicle when an unknown gunman approached on foot and shot them.

A motive for the shooting has not been determined at this time. Detectives are canvassing the nearby area for witnesses and surveillance footage.
