    These roads to close in Fresno for high-speed rail project

    FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Some roads in Fresno will be closed until August and September because of work being done as part of the California High-Speed Rail project, officials announced.

    The California High-Speed Rail Authority, along with the design-build contractor Tutor-Perini / Zachry / Parsons announced a road closure along Orange Avenue between Garrett Avenue and Pullman Street in Fresno and along Golden State Boulevard, south of Orange Avenue, beginning July 22 until Aug. 16.

    In the northbound Orange Avenue detour, officials say traffic will be detoured north on Cedar Avenue, then west on Church Avenue to Orange Avenue. Southbound, traffic will be detoured on Church Avenue, then south on Cedar Avenue to Jensen Avenue.

    Officials also say intermittent lane closures will happen along Weber Avenue behind the Marketplace at El Paseo Shopping Center in Fresno. Work will begin on July 22 through Sept. 24, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Signage and flaggers will be in place to direct all traffic.

    The closures will be done for utility work related to Construction Package 1, the first 32-mile stretch of high-speed rail between Avenue 19 in Madera County and East American Avenue in Fresno County.

    There will also be closures along Herndon and Weber Avenues in Fresno for utility work. The work is scheduled to take place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. starting on July 22 and will go through Sept. 24.

    There will be lane closures along southbound Weber Avenue between Farrington Street and Herndon Avenue. There will also be intermittent lane closures along Herndon Avenue between Highway 99 Herndon Avenue off-ramp and Riverside Drive. There will be a lane closure along the northbound Highway 99 to Herndon Avenue off-ramp.

    Truck traffic going along Truck traffic going along northbound Riverside Drive to westbound Herndon Avenue will be detoured west on Veterans Boulevard, then north on Golden State Boulevard to Herndon Avenue.

    In all closures, officials say access will be maintained to all property and business owners, and that construction activities and schedules are subject to change.
