FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – The Fresno Chaffee Zoo is inviting visitors to get up close and personal with the largest breed of lizard in the world in a new immersive experience starting this Saturday.

The behind-the-scenes program takes guests into the holding area of two Komodo Dragons where zookeepers say visitors can feed the reptiles with meat poked onto the end of a stick.

According to the World Wildlife Fund , Komodo Dragons can swallow whole prey the size of a goat. Their 60 serrated teeth and venomous bite help them to paralyze their victims, but zoo staff say the feeding experience is safe for all ages.

Zookeepers say the interactive encounter allows participants to watch the dragons up close while learning about their behaviors, habitat, and the care they receive at the Fresno Chaffee Zoo.

The program starts July 27 and will be open every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
