Participate in survey to determine Fresno’s ‘highest-need’ neighborhoods

FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Fresno Parks and Recreation is asking the community to participate in a survey that will help update the neighborhoods that are considered “highest-need” for 2025 to 2027.

Officials say that the survey will help make a difference as Measure P requires that no less than 50% of funds must be allocated to the highest-need neighborhoods in the City of Fresno.

According to officials, the Measure P ordinance requires the highest-needs neighborhood definition to be updated every three years through a public process and will be updated based on 11 equity factors.

The equity factors are listed below:

• Existing conditions of parks and facilities based on needs assessment data in the plan
• The proportion of the population that lives within walking distance (1/2 mile) to a park
• Park acreage per 1,000 residents
• Population density
• Neighborhood youth and senior population
• Neighborhood safety
• Neighborhoods of concentrated poverty
• Pollution burden, as defined by CalEnviroScreens 3.0 or subsequent updates;
• Pre-term birth rates
• Years of potential lives lost
• Neighborhood composite Mortality rate

Officials say that 46% of the Measure P funds will be for improving and maintaining neighborhood parks and playgrounds and 21.5% will be for creating new parks and recreation facilities.
