Fort Liberty officer stole, sold weapons, other military equipment worth $1.8 million
An Army officer stationed at Fort Liberty used his position to steal and resell military equipment and pocket the proceeds, amounting to almost $2 million. Chief Warrant Officer Three (CW3) Christopher Hammond, 38, pleaded guilty to six charges, including theft of government property, wire fraud, money laundering, mail fraud and transportation of stolen goods. He was convicted by a jury on an additional count of money laundering and aiding and abetting.
Sale of Park & Ride lot may free county from PART
County officials may be cautiously optimistic about the prospect of a final exit from the Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation (PART) following the sale of one of the park and ride lots. Governor signs measures to ensure higher education funding for military dependents for next two years
“We are grateful that the governor and General Assembly agreed to provide funding in the state’s budget to help Virginia’s public colleges and universities offset the cost of VMSDEP for the next two years,” said VCCS Chancellor David Dore. “Until now, there had been no state appropriation to compensate our institutions of higher education for the cost of the tuition they are required to waive.”
