MOWIT volunteers lend hand at Baker transitional house for women
St. Louis – Volunteers with Missouri Women in Trades (MOWIT) helped demo and rebuild a plumbing stack at one of the Baker House’s transitional homes for women on June 29 and 30. A group of female Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 562 members led the project. The house, located in south St. Louis City, is owned by Keyway Center for Diversion and Reentry, which provides housing and wrap-around services for women reentering the St. Louis community from jail or prison. The effort is one of several projects MOWIT has completed for the agency. – MOWIT photo.

Mike Shannon is among the most significant individuals synonymous with the St. Louis Cardinals organization. Born in St. Louis on July 15th, 1939, Shannon grew up in the area and attended Clayton's Christian Brothers College High School. He was an outstanding athlete, winning the Missouri Prep Player of the Year in football and basketball. Football was Shannon's best sport, having signed a letter of intent to play at the University of Missouri.

UC’s Josh Kross drafted by St. Louis Cardinals in 6th round
The University of Cincinnati's Josh Kross was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the sixth round of the 2024 MLB Draft on Monday. Kross, of Brunswick, Ohio, is the 51st player in program history to be selected in the MLB Draft and the first since Evan Shawver in 2021. He is also the third Bearcat to be drafted in the top ten rounds since 2020, joining Shawver and 2020 fourth round selection Joey Wiemer. The 171st overall pick in the draft, Kross is the third-highest UC draftee in the last 40 years behind Wiemer and 2015 first-round selection Ian Happ.
