SALISBURY — Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County recently opened its second ReStore near U.S. Route 13 Business in Fruitland.

The nonprofit held a July 11 grand opening celebration at the new store located at 105 N. Dulany Ave, where officials said several hundred customers passed though the ReStore, taking advantage of sales, giveaways and free food and drinks

Wicomico Habitat ReStore Director, Lee Wise, said the event was a huge success, noting over 500 items were purchased in one day. Wise added that the ReStore funds Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County’s mission, helping the organization to achieve its goals to ensure everyone has a safe, decent, affordable place to call home.

Wicomico Habitat will begin building two homes simultaneously on Grace Street in Salisbury this summer. The foundations of those homes are set to be poured late summer 2024, with construction following. Volunteer build day opportunities will be available.

Continued community support of the Salisbury and Fruitland ReStores will help Habitat assist more low-income families with affordable homeownership and critical home repairs. Donations of gently used furniture, houseware, appliances, and small items are accepted in both ReStores either during store business hours (located on website), or through a scheduled pickup. Donors, as well as volunteers wishing to help in construction or either ReStore location, are encouraged to contact Habitat at wicomicohabitat.org.

Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County said since it was founded in 1987, the affiliate has served 90 families with affordable homeownership and 125 families with critical home repairs.

According to its website, the Salisbury ReStore on W. Isabella St. generates $600,000 annually to support the affiliate’s administrative budget so that all funds raised can go directly to building. With the addition of the second ReStore, and the expansion of the Salisbury ReStore into the old administrative offices, ReStore revenue is expected to grow to $1,000,000.
