STILLWATER, Okla. — Four turnovers and a dormant second half for the offense cost Arkansas football the chance at a statement victory over No. 17 Oklahoma State on Saturday.
Instead, the Razorbacks (1-1) blew a 14-point halftime lead, and despite rallying for a game-tying field goal at the end of regulation, fell to the Cowboys 39-31 in overtime. Oklahoma State’s Ollie Gordon II was kept in check all game, but he provided the decisive blow with a game-winning 12-yard touchdown on the ground
Arkansas out-gained Oklahoma State (2-0) 648-395, but three costly turnovers and poor play on special teams doomed the Razorbacks on the road. Arkansas only scored 10 points across the final two quarters after looking dominant in the first half.
Oklahoma State scored two critical touchdowns after Arkansas missed a field goal and muffed a punt in the fourth quarter. Kyle Ramsey missed another field goal in overtime, and a personal foul penalty on Xavian Sorey Jr. in overtime set up the Gordon touchdown.
Ja’Quinden Jackson powered the Arkansas offense with three rushing touchdowns, and he finished with 139 yards on 22 carries. Taylen Green was solid once again, albeit reckless at times, passing for 407 yards and running for 61.
Arkansas covers 48 yards in 55 seconds and sets Ramsey up for the game-tying field goal as time expires. Incredible. This wacky game is going to overtime.
Hasz gets his first catch of the game, streaking down the middle for a game-tying score. The Hogs only needed three plays and 1:12 to find the end zone, but now Oklahoma State has 4:01 remaining and only needs three points.
The Cowboys use a flea-flicker to spark a 5-play, 80-yard drive that ends with them taking a 28-21 lead. Arkansas will get the ball back with 5:13 remaining.
The first field-goal attempt of Ramsey's Arkansas career is wide right, and Oklahoma State now has a chance to march down the field and tie the gane. The Cowboys take over at their own 24-yard line with 11:44 remaining.
Oklahoma State once again gets inside the red zone, but the Hogs defense makes a stop and forces another kick. Still, it's a one possession game with Arkansas leading 21-13 and 39 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
Arkansas can't get out of its own way here. A botched pitch from Taylen Green to Ja'Quinden Jackson is recovered by the Cowboys, who take over a the Hogs' 49-yard line. Danger time here for Arkansas with 3:25 remaining in the third quarter.
The Cowboys thought they had a touchdown, but a personal foul wiped off the score, and they instead had to settle for a field goal. That was the best drive of the game for Oklahoma State and the first points the Arkansas defense has given up all year. The Hogs lead 21-10 with 6:45 remaining in the third quarter.
Singletary just had the best moment of his Arkansas career, locking up Rashod Owens and high-pointing the ball for an interception. Arkansas will carry a 21-7 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Jackson reaches the end zone for the third time today, giving the Hogs a 21-7 lead with 5:05 remaining. Arkansas is out-gaining Oklahoma State 307-60. Somehow, the score doesn't indicate how dominant the Hogs have been today.
Disaster for Arkansas, as Keyshawn Blackstock is beaten on the right side of the offensive line, causing pressure and forcing Taylen Green into a pick-six. The Hogs had all the momentum, but Oklahoma State is right back in it.
What a drive by Arkansas, who marches 83 yards on eight plays and grabs a 14-0 lead with 1:31 remaining in the first period. Taylen Green used his legs for a huge third-down conversion on the drive.
The Hogs punch it in and grab a 7-0 lead on their second drive of the game. Five plays, 45 yards and Arkansas already has 71 rushing yards. Impressive start for the Razorbacks, with the defense stopping Oklahoma State on its first two drives.
Arkansas wins the toss and elects to defer. Oklahoma State's offense will get this game going.
