Light the torch and cue that iconic Olympics theme song — we’re ready for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics happening today through Sunday, Aug. 11.

At this summer’s Olympic Games, approximately 10,500 athletes from around the world will compete across 32 sports
. Since we’re all about keeping it local, we’ve rounded up eight Paris 2024 Olympians with ties to Fort Worth and the surrounding areas to keep your eye on.

    Let the Games begin .

    Conner Prince , Shooting
Talk about starting things off with a bang . Prince hails from Burleson, TX (~25 minutes south of Fort Worth) and is part of the US Shotgun Team . Paris 2024 will be his first Olympics and he’ll be competing in skeet shooting beginning Friday, Aug. 2.

    Hailey Van Lith , 3x3 Women’s Basketball

Originally from Wenatchee, WA, Van Lith played three seasons of college basketball at University of Louisville before recently transferring to Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. She earned her spot on Team USA’s small but mighty 3x3 Basketball team , which begins competing on Tuesday, July 30.

Bonus: Van Lith is the only TCU athlete playing for Team USA in Paris, but there are eight other TCU athletes playing for additional countries, including tennis star Cam Norrie for Great Britain.

    Chiaka Ogbogu , Volleyball
This 6-ft-2 volleyball standout who plays the middle position is from Coppell, TX (~30 miles from Fort Worth) and is a University of Texas alumna. Team USA begins playing Monday, July 29.

    Sam Watson , Sport Climbing
To say this athlete rocks is an understatement. Hailed as “the fastest climber in the world,” Watson’s personal best time in speed climbing is 5.02 seconds. The 18-year-old athlete is from Southlake, TX (~30 miles from FTW) and has been climbing since age 5. He’ll be among the first to compete in the Olympics’
new Sport Climbing category; Men’s Speed events start Tuesday, Aug. 6.

    Joseph Brown , Men’s Discus
A graduate of Mansfield High School, the 28-year-old placed third in the 2023 U.S Olympic Team Trials for discus. Also a graduate of Texas A&M University-Commerce , he’s active on Instagram . Discus will begin on Monday, Aug. 5.

    The Dallas Nods
The above athletes are from Fort Worth and surrounding areas, but we did want also give a nod to Dallas athletes, especially because Scottie Scheffler
(golf) and Sha’Carri Richardson (100- and 200-meter sprints) are favorites in their fields. You may not know Hezly Rivera by name just yet but you will soon — she’s the youngest member of the USA Gymnastics team. She’s from New Jersey but currently lives in Plano, TX and began competing in meets at age five .
