The Fulton County Board of Commissioners announced it intends to increase the property taxes it will levy this year by 3.74 percent over the rollback millage rate.

Georgia law requires the county to compute a rollback millage rate that would produce the same revenue on the current year’s total property tax digest that last year’s millage rate would have produced if property values had not been reassessed.

The board of tax assessors must make a reassessment when property price trends indicate an increase in the fair market value of properties.

The commissioners adopted a budget that requires a millage rate of 8.87 percent – higher than the rollback millage rate of 8.55.

Before setting the rate, Georgia law requires that commissioners hold three public hearings to give the public a chance to be heard.

The public hearings at the Government Center Assembly Hall, 141 Pryor Street, Atlanta, will be held at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on July 10, and at 10 a.m. on Aug. 7.

Members of the public can address the commissioners via Zoom:
