New York Man Dies in Motorcycle Crash on Ohio Turnpike Near Swanton
Swanton, OH – A 65-year-old New York man died in a single vehicle motorcycle crash on the Ohio turnpike in Fulton County on Monday evening. The Swanton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the fatal crash, which occurred at 6 p.m. near state Route 66 in Franklin Township, Fulton County.
One killed in motorcycle crash on Turnpike
SWANTON — A New York man was killed Monday in a motorcycle crash on the Ohio Turnpike in Fulton County. According to the Swanton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Daniel P. Kirst, 65, of Akron, New York, was operating a motorcycle westbound on the Ohio Turnpike near State Route 66 in Franklin Township at approximately 6 p.m. when he changed lanes and lost control, causing the motorcycle to overturn.
Holland man indicted on robbery charges
WAUSEON — A Holland man was indicted on robbery charges Monday by a Fulton County grand jury. According to the Fulton County Prosecutor’s Office, Corey L. Royer, 53, was indicted on two counts of robbery, one a second-degree felony and one a third-degree felony, and one count of unauthorized use of a vehicle, a first-degree misdemeanor.

In spate of weekend car crash fatalities, many killed did not wear seat belts
Seven people killed in car crashes in Ohio over the Fourth of July weekend might have survived if they’d been wearing a seat belt. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, 16 people died in 15 crashes from Thursday through Sunday. Of the nine fatalities where a seat belt was available, seven people killed were not wearing seat belts. In his March state of the state address, Gov. Mike DeWine highlighted that Ohio was one of the bottom 10 states in seat belt use. In 2022, Ohio was 13th in the nation for car crash fatalities per capita, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. “We see far too many crashes where seat belts could have been the difference between a person living or not living,” said Sgt. Ryan Purpura, regional spokesman for the highway patrol.
