What does a comedian know about baseball? And what can America's oldest baseball field tell us about the civil rights movement?. Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama is America's oldest ballpark. It's older than Wrigley Field and Fenway park. But its history is full of contradictions. In its heyday, Rickwood was home to both the Birmingham Barons and the Birmingham Black Barons, one of the most talented teams in the Negro Leagues. The field hosted a women's suffrage event, but the stadium's owner also allowed a KKK rally to take place there.
ServisFirst Bank Holding Company Named To Top List
ServisFirst Bancshares, Inc., bank holding company of ServisFirst Bank, a regional bank headquartered in Birmingham, with locations in Mobile and Baldwin counties, has ranked fourth in the top publicly traded banks with $10 billion-$50 billion in assets based on year-end 2023 data. ServisFirst Bancshares is the only bank in Alabama that made it into the top 10, and this is the third year in a row it has achieved a top-five ranking. The annual list is compiled by consultancy Capital Performance Group, which uses each institution’s three-year average return on average equity (ROAE) to determine rankings, which are published annually by American Banker. The $16 billion-asset institution ServisFirst Bancshares had a 3-year average ROAE of 18.38%, a return on average assets of 1.37%, a net interest margin of 2.81%, nonperforming assets/total assets of 0.13% and core deposits/total deposits of 91.30%.
