Gadsden, AL — In a significant move to bolster emergency response capabilities, the Police and Public Safety Department at Gadsden State Community College has outfitted its vehicles with Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and Narcan, an opioid overdose reversal medication. This initiative spans across all five campuses located in three counties.

“This is a significant enhancement in our emergency response capabilities,” said Chief Jay Freeman. “This ensures that our team can promptly and effectively respond to medical emergencies across all five campuses located in three counties.”

In addition to the equipment upgrade, the college has introduced the Cardinal Safety Training Program, aimed at strengthening the readiness of the department and college employees.

“This comprehensive program is available to all Gadsden State employees and includes essential training in the use of AEDs, Narcan, and CPR,” Freeman said.

Freeman emphasized that equipping the emergency-response vehicles in conjunction with the Cardinal Safety program demonstrates the College’s commitment to the safety and well-being of those in the communities it serves.

“We are dedicated to continuously enhancing our skills and resources to ensure we can respond effectively to emergencies,” he said. “These initiatives are a testament to our proactive approach to safeguarding our campuses and supporting the health and security of everyone at Gadsden State.”
