Those attending tonight's fireworks show over the Coosa River hosted by the City of Gadsden and the Gadsden-Etowah Patriots Association may have to alter their viewing locations after a new company had to be brought in at the last minute to stage the display.

According to a Facebook post from the city, a technician for the company that had been contracted for the show was injured Wednesday night prior to a scheduled fireworks display in Calhoun County.

ABC 33/40 reported that a firework shell unexpectedly went off as the company, Pyrotecnico, was setting up at Jax Fest at Jacksonville High School. The technician was transported to UAB Hospital and the display was called off.

The Gadsden display will still start at 9 p.m., but the fireworks will be shot off from the old Convention Hall site. City officials in their post said some previously available parking areas may be closed because of the switch.

The rest of July Fest on the Coosa will go on as scheduled on Riverside Drive, near Moragne Park and the Spirit of Citizenship Monument. Gates open at 5 p.m. and a free concert by Fly By Radio starts at 6 p.m. There also will be food trucks and a cash bar.

City officials reiterated that lawn chairs are allowed, but coolers aren't.
