A woman was jailed early Sunday after a high-speed pursuit from Gadsden to Rainbow City ended with her vehicle crashing into gas pumps at a convenience store and gas station, igniting a fire.

According to a news release from the Gadsden Police Department, officers were called to a report of a “suspicious vehicle” in the Clubview area. They attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled. The officers gave chase and were joined on Rainbow Drive by Rainbow City officers.

The chase reached speeds of more than 100 mph, according to the release, before it ended when the vehicle slammed into the pumps at Mapco at the intersection of Rainbow Drive and Alabama Highway 77.

Officers arrested the woman, identified as Stephanie O'Bryant, and acted to extinguish the fire. The Rainbow City Fire Department and the Gadsden-Etowah County Emergency Management Agency responded to the scene quickly to manage the blaze and deal with hazardous materials concerns.

O'Bryant was charged with DUI and felony eluding. She was taken to the Etowah County Detention Center. Her status was not available in a search of the jail log.
