A Coudersport pool patron has been defecating in the pool recently, necessitating pool closings and excessive chlorine use to repair the damage. “We have had five incidents,” said borough manager Bev Morris at the July 17 council meeting. “Two of them were in the shallow end and were most likely swim diaper problems — which is going to happen.”

Veteran, Dog Die In Genesee Township Fire
Fire crews responded to a house fire in Genesee Township Thursday morning, which claimed the life of its occupant and his dog. The fire began some time before 4;30 in the 1000 block of Clovis Avenue. Firefighters on the scene reported heavy flames at the front and back of the home, which broke though the roof shortly after they arrived. Fire officials say there were explosions on the scene, which may have been caused by oxygen tanks. Once firefighters were able to enter the building, they discovered the body of a man and the dog. Officials say the man was a Vietnam veteran and a double leg amputee. The house is considered a total loss.

Galeton, Pa. — George A. Bowen, Jr., 85, of Galeton, Pa. died Tuesday, July 16, 2024 in his home. Born Sept. 30, 1938 in Blossburg, he was the son of George A. and Hilma M. Hakes Bowen. The family resided in Wellsboro and Spring City, and in 1945 moved to Galeton, where his parents established the Bow Inn. The Bow Inn started out selling gasoline and a snack bar, like the modern mini mart, eventually adding a motel, which they operated for many years.
