It’s widely known that Jac Caglianone is one of the best baseball players to ever put on the Orange and Blue, but many might not realize that the soon-to-be-former Florida Gator is also an academic.

The College Sports Communicators announced Caglianone as the Division I Baseball All-America Team Member of the Year on Tuesday, joining Alex Epp from William Jewell College (Division II), Matt Scolan of UW-Whitewater (Division III) and Tyler Horner from Oregon Tech (NAIA). Each team has a full roster as well, but these are the overall division winners.

Caglianone, a history major, has a 3.64 cumulative grade point average. The 33-man team has a 3.78 average cumulative GPA with the first team averaging a 3.73. A two-way player, Caglianone earns his selection as an infielder this year.

As a hitter, there’s very little Caglianone failed to accomplish at Florida. He leaves Gainesville as the program’s all-time home run leader (75) and finished his final season with a .419 batting average and a .419 OPS.

Caglianone also anchored Florida’s rotation, starting every weekend Game 3 of Florida’s regular season. He threw 73 2/3 innings over 16 starts while maintaining a 4.76 ERA and .225 batting average against.
