Multiple SEC football teams are fighting for a top-100 recruit

Commitments from 2025 recruits continue to pour in for top programs across the country. However, a few top SEC schools are still waiting for an announcement from a top-100 player.

Lagonza Hayward is a 4-star recruit and a top-100 player in the class of 2025. He's slated to announce where he'll be playing college football on his birthday, which is on July 27. While setting his commitment date, Hayward revealed which SEC schools he'll be choosing from when he makes his decision.

"It has come down to Florida, Georgia and Tennessee,” Hayward told Gators Online . “My decision to pick one of those will be about relationships and loyalty. Those things are very important to me."

A 6-foot-1, 205-pound safety, Hayward is a physical player out of Toombs County High School in Georgia. On3 currently projects the Tennessee Volunteers as the favorite to land him, with the Georgia Bulldogs as underdogs and Florida Gators as longshots.

SEC schools competing for top recruits isn't uncommon. However, it's an interesting group of schools for Hayward to be choosing from. The Bulldogs are perennial national title contenders, the Volunteers are an ascending team that has built an identity around their spread offense, and the Gators are still trying to get back into SEC relevancy.

There are still a few more days before Hayward makes his official decision. However, given the school's defensive identity, don't be surprised to see the Bulldogs pull off the upset to land a physical safety like Hayward.
