Meet Florida's Giant 464-Pound Defensive Lineman

Football is the home of the some of the country's largest human beings.

Florida Gators defensive lineman Desmond Watson makes all of those guys look small.

According to the team's official website , Watson is listed at 6-foot-5 and 464 pounds. Anyone who has watched SEC or college football games over the last few years has probably noticed him. He's played in 38 games over the last three seasons, racking up 43 tackles, three tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks. He's an imposing presence in the middle of Florida's defense that plugs holes in the run game and anchors the middle of the defense when on the field.

You may be confused as to why a player as giant as Watson wears the number 21. The jersey number is a way of honoring his younger brother, who suffered a stroke and brain damage when he was five years old.

"He wore 21,'' Watson revealed about his brother . "He comes to most of my games. Whenever he sees me in uniform with No. 21 on, he lights up a lot. He really, really likes that."

Prior to his time with the Gators, Watson was a 3-star recruit at Armwood High School in Florida. His offers included other top-tier programs like the Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide, but he decided to stay closer to home to play for the Gators.

Entering his senior season, Watson is hoping to help make the Gators an SEC contender once again in 2024.
