Several elite recruits will attend the Florida Gators’ Grille in the Ville recruiting event Saturday but Ty Jackson of Loxahatchee (Fla.) Seminole Ridge arguably is the headliner. That’s because Jackson is the No. 1 linebacker in the country for On3.

Jackson, who already has visited the Gators multiple times this year, will make the trip to Gainesville with his parents. Although numerous schools attempted to get Jackson on campus this weekend, Florida was the first to invite him — and that paid of.

“Ty chose to go back up,” said Semaj Jackson, Ty’s father. “I don’t think a lot of players will be around. But we talked to (defensive coordinator) Austin Armstrong about it, and a few will be. It will be good to get on campus, look around the campus. The (official visit) did some of that. He’s still getting to know the campus, getting to know the area.”

Jackson, listed at 6-foot-1.25, 197 pounds, is the No. 25 overall prospect for On3 and checks in at No. 82 in the On3 Industry Rankings. Alabama is the current favorite for him in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, but he seems to be fairly open and there is a long way to go in this recruitment. According to Semaj Jackson, a commitment decision isn’t likely to come until much later in the year.

Between now and then, Ty Jackson will visit multiple schools and attend several games. In fact, he’ll return to Gainesville on Aug. 31 to watch the Gators play host to Miami. Florida appears to be a significant factor to Jackson, and his father explained why.

“Well, I think the opportunity to come in and compete to play early is one thing,” Semaj Jackson told Gators Online. “Also, the Gator Made program, player development, life after college, they have great people around. Obviously, the stafff is good, that’s another reason. Just all the way around, it’s a good fit. It’s just a matter of narrowing down his options. He’s still getting options.”

Alabama, Florida State and Georgia are among the main competition for Florida. Meanwhile, Southern California has entered the picture and a fall visit for a game to Los Angeles is possible.

“He wants to see the teams play,” Semaj Jackson said. “And obviously see those payers at his position — who he’ll be playing with.”
