Gators recruiting intel from south Florida

HOLLYWOOD, FLORIDA — It’s Football Hotbed media day here in south Florida, and teams from the Miami-Fort Lauderdale metro area will have many of their top players on hand for us to interview. Gators Online will post individual articles on multiple players, but for now here’s the latest intel we’ve gathered from this event.

*On 4-star safety Bryce Fitzgerald of Miami (Fla.) Columbus: Four programs continue to stand out ahead of his Aug. 17 commitment — Florida, FSU, LSU and Miami. But from that group, he said FSU and LSU currently are ahead of the pack. Fitzgerald has concerns about the coaching stability in Gainesville. It appears to be weighing on him and on this upcoming decision.

Whatever happens on Aug. 17, though, Fitzgerald is set to attend the Florida-Miami game at The Swamp on Aug. 31. And, he plans to take his recruitment into the fall. So basically, things aren’t likely to end this month.

Even though LSU had been one of Fitzgerald’s top schools for awhile, this was the first we’ve heard of them being forward the top. Most of the recent chatter has been about Florida and FSU. Is this new development legit or a smokescreen leading up to his announcement? We’ll do our best to find out in the coming days.

*The buzz down here about 4-star receiver Naeshaun Montgomery of Miami Central won’t surprise most of you. Right now, all the talk is about the Gators being the clear heavy favorite in his recruitment.

*Oklahoma defensive tackle commit Floyd Boucard of Miami Central isn’t at this event, but his coach told Gators Online that Florida continues to recruit Boucard hard. We’ve talked to multiple sources here who believe Boucard will end up at a Gators game this season. His coach seems to think Florida isn’t out of this recruitment just yet. Meanwhile, it sounds like Miami could be another program to track down the road.
