A two-story inpatient rehabilitation hospital is underway in Gainesville.

Hoar Construction has announced the groundbreaking for the Northeast Georgia Rehabilitation Hospital , a joint venture partnership between Northeast Georgia Health System and Lifepoint Health . Hoar is the general contractor for construction of the building, which is expected to be complete by April 2025.

The 62,000-square-foot project will house 40 beds and include shell space for 10 additional beds as needed.

The first floor will include a therapy gym, day rooms for patients, a full kitchen and dining room and a mock bedroom and kitchen area to be used for life-skills training, according to a news release. The second floor will include space for patients with brain injuries. The building will also feature a courtyard space with outdoor therapeutic resources.

Nashville-based Earl Swensson Associates, Inc. is the architecture team behind the project.

Northeast Georgia Rehabilitation Hospital will be located at 2500 Limestone Parkway, where a J&J Foods once operated. Hoar is set to begin demolition of the grocery store this month, with construction on the hospital beginning in April.

“We will lean on our years of experience building quality rehabilitation facilities to execute this project to the highest of standards,” said John Holmes , superintendent at Hoar. “As it will soon become the leading provider of rehabilitation services in North Georgia, we aim for nothing short of excellence when building Northeast Georgia Rehabilitation Hospital. We are pleased to begin our partnership with Lifepoint with such a rewarding and exciting project and look forward to continuing the relationship after a successful completion next year.”

Hoar Construction has completed nearly $1.5 billion in health care projects over the past 10 years. Elsewhere in Georgia, Hoar is also working on a $17.8 million expansion and renovation at Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele and another health care project in Albany.
