2 people killed in Kanawha County car crash

UPDATE: (12:30 P.M. June 10) – Two drivers were killed Monday morning in a head-on crash in Kanawha County.

The crash happened between 7:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. near Dark Hollow on Paint Creek Road in Gallagher. Kanawha County deputies on scene say one vehicle traveling south crossed the center line and struck another vehicle head-on, causing both vehicles to catch fire.

According to deputies, it appears one driver was allegedly using a cell phone at the time of the crash.

“The crash was a pretty intensive crash with heavy damage that caused both vehicles to engulf in flames,” said Sgt. Josh Lester, with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office. “The fire department was dispatched, and we found both drivers of each vehicle to be deceased.”

The victims’ names have not been released at this time.

The accident happened just after 7:30 a.m. Monday at Dark Hollow and Paint Creek Road. Heavy flames and smoke were reported.
