Fort Smith family confirms they are safe after riding out Hurricane Beryl in Texas
JAMAICA BEACH, Texas — A Fort Smith family is safe after riding out a tropical storm as it hit Jamaica Beach early Monday morning. Hurricane Beryl slammed into Texas on July 8, knocking out power to nearly 3 million homes and businesses and killing at least three people as it moved east and later weakened to a tropical depression, the National Hurricane Center said Monday evening.
Hurricane Beryl Strikes Texas, Cutting Power to Millions
Hurricane Beryl regained momentum Monday morning, making landfall in southwest Texas near Matagorda with 75-mile-per-hour winds and wiping out power to millions. The first major hurricane of the summer has left some 2 million Texans without power, mostly in Matagorda, Brazoria, and Galveston counties along the coast, according to PowerOutage.us.

Tropical Storm Beryl moves north, to impact Houston area beginning today
HOUSTON (KIAH) — Tropical Storm Beryl is preparing to make landfall off the Texas coast, bringing lots of rainfall and heavy winds to southeast Texas and the Houston area. Sunday’s forecast shows the storm expecting to make landfall near Matagorda later Sunday evening, with the possibility of intensifying into a hurricane.
City of Galveston: Phone system update
While Lumen resolved the issues with incoming/outgoing calls they are still having issues with their service. Currently the service is not accepting incoming calls from AT&T. Callers using AT&T service will receive a message indicating that the call cannot be completed as dialed. This is only applicable to AT&T service and impacts all the Lumen customers, which includes the Galveston County telephone system at the Justice Center.
