Neal Brown says true freshman will play Saturday, names starter at right tackle
On the Neal Brown Show Thursday, live from Kegler’s, West Virginia’s head coach gave insight into playing time and starting personnel. Brown said that true freshman Ric’Darious ‘DayDay’ Farmer will play Saturday. Farmer was a four-star recruit coming out of high school and ‘flipped’ to WVU on national signing day after being committed to UCF. Brown and staff were ultimately impressed with Farmer throughout fall camp, taking notice of his play-making ability.
West Virginia adjusting to use of sideline tablets
West Virginia, along with the other Big 12 Conference teams, will have access to Microsoft Tablets on the sidelines this coming season. The tablets will be available for usage on the sideline and in the coaching booth, allowing players and coaches access to video review in-game. It was a change made in the off-season to open the door to use the tablets on the sidelines for the first time.
Two hometown athletes expected to start for WVU offense on Saturday
A pair of Morgantown natives are expected to earn the starting nod on offense for West Virginia football as they host No. 8 Penn State on Saturday. Wide receiver Preston Fox and offensive tackle Nick Malone both earned significant playing time last season, with Fox playing in moderate role in the Mountaineers passing attack over the course of the year. Fox earned five starts, saw action in all 12 regular season games, and hauled in over 300 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Malone saw action in 13 games, started four, and played over 500 snaps combined on offense and special teams.
