Final Preparations: New York City Ballet Season Opens Tuesday at Saratoga
SARATOGA SPRINGS - The wardrobe department for New York City Ballet works on the final costume preparations July 8 at Saratoga Performing Arts Center in preparation for New York City Ballet’s annual residency from July 9-13. Among the costumes prepared at SPAC for the ballet’s Saratoga residency: dozens of swan tutus for George Balanchine’s Swan Lake designed by Alain Vaes; intricate men’s and women’s costumes for Balanchine’s Jewels and Stars and Stripes designed by the great Karinska; dozens of children’s skirts and tutus for Balanchine’s Coppelia designed by Karinska; a pink lace doll tutu and toy soldier costume designed by David Mitchell for Balanchine’s The Steadfast Tin Soldier; striking red unitards designed by Holly Hynes for the return of Ulysses Dove’s Red Angels; bold streetstyle costumes designed by fashion designer Humberto Leon for Justin Peck’s The Times Are Racing; beautiful flowing red designs by Reid Bartelme and Harriet Jung for the SPAC premiere of Pam Tanowitz’s Gustave Le Gray No. 1; and sweeping yellow tulle costumes designed by NYCB Director of Costumes Marc Happel for the SPAC premiere of Amy Hall Garner’s Underneath There is Light.

11 Fillies Contest Opening-Day Schuylerville Stakes
The first stakes race of the 2024 meeting at Saratoga Race Course, the $175,000 Schuylerville, attracted a field of 11 2-year-old fillies, with some of the meet's perennial successful connections squaring off July 11. First run in 1918, the Schuylerville was downgraded from a grade 3 to listed this year.
REVIEW: Dave Matthews Band delivers, even if SPAC experience doesn't (w/ photos)
Friday evening was the dreaded kind of summer day; H-H-H: hazy, hot, and humid. That didn’t stop the die-hard Dave Matthews fans (is there any other kind?) from assembling into long, serpentine lines that wound themselves well into the great lawn of the Hall of Springs. The parking lot at Saratoga Performing Arts Center was a sea of dancing lady decals, rolling in in waves to witness the first of two evenings of one of the legends of the jam band genre.

Michael Foster's Next (Not This Time) has earned a host of fans with five straight wins in races 1 1/2 miles and over, most recently storming to a 9 3/4-length victory in the GII Brooklyn S. last Friday. Fans may be hoping to see the 6-year-old gelding cut back in distance for a chance to earn a spot in the Breeders' Cup in a race like the 'Win and You're In' GI Jockey Club Gold Cup, but trainer Doug Cowans plans to stick with what is working and will aim his charge at the 1 3/4-mile Birdstone Stakes at Saratoga Aug. 4. Next won that race by 11 3/4 lengths last year.
Luzerne Music Center Announces Summer Concerts
The Luzerne Music Center has announced its summer concerts before the beginning of the 2024-2025 season. Hosted in the town of Lake Luzerne, the concerts showcase the talent of regional and local musicians. Moreover attendees can enjoy dozens of performances of classical music from local groups to national touring ensembles. Notably, a wide variety of shows will be hosted this summer throughout the town, including a Chamber Music Festival, student concerts, and the Faculty Artist Series.
