A new partnership has formed between Hofstra University's School of Health Sciences and Adelphi University. The partnership provides a path for Adelphi students who want to pursue a master’s degree in Hofstra’s Creative Arts Therapy Counseling program.

“This partnership is a great opportunity for students who are interested in pursuing a career in creative arts therapy counseling," Reginald Alston, dean of the Hofstra School of Health Sciences and professor of counseling and mental health professions, said in a news release about the new partnership.

“Creative arts therapy is a growing field that can be used to help people of all ages cope with a variety of mental health challenges,” Alston added. “We are excited to welcome Adelphi students to our program and help them develop the skills and knowledge they need to become successful creative arts therapists.”

"The Adelphi-Hofstra Pathway Program provides our undergraduate students who wish to pursue an advanced degree in this evolving field many advantages, including cost and time savings," Christopher Storm, provost at Adelphi University, said in the news release. "We are very excited to partner with Hofstra on this unique pathway program."

The Hofstra 60-credit program is designed to prepare graduates for licensure in New York State as a creative arts therapist and as a registered and board-certified art therapist. The program features a combination of theory, technique and supervised clinical experience, and emphasizes experiential learning and strong faculty-student relationships to foster a supportive learning environment.

The Adelphi Hofstra pathway program is open to Adelphi students with a major in fine arts or psychology who have a GPA of at least 3.0 or higher and have completed or are in the process of completing specific prerequisite courses in psychology and fine arts.
