Woof Wednesday aims to strengthen autism services and tackle homelessness on Long Island
ELIJA — known as Empowering Long Island’s Journey through Autism — is launching Woof Wednesday at its new ELIJA Farm marketplace. Every Wednesday, the marketplace will feature handcrafted dog biscuits made at the ELIJA Farm in Huntington Station. Sales from these biscuits will support autism services and aid for people experiencing homelessness in Nassau and Suffolk counties. In collaboration with the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless, this initiative highlights the impact of pets on our lives and serves our communities.
Students receive free backpacks, supplies
The first day of school can mean a lot of different things to students. There will be the return of homework and the reuniting with old friends. But what some take for granted — buying a backpack and school supplies for children — is too expensive for some families to provide. To help, the Nassau County Police Benevolent Association, Glen Cove Police Benevolent Association and Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton handed out free backpacks and school supplies at Glen Cove High School on Aug. 22 to ensure children have a better start at the beginning of the school year.
Gas Station Owner Ordered to Pay More Than $1 Million in Back Wages, Damages
The U.S. Department of Labor has obtained a federal court judgment requiring 15 gas stations—incorporated under individual company names, operating under brands including bp, Mobil and Sunoco in Bronx, Nassau and Suffolk counties in New York—and their owner and president to pay more than $1 million in back wages and liquidated damages to more than 100 current and former employees in response to a federal investigation.

MORRISTOWN, NJ – Roxbury police played a role in the arrest of a man accused of distributing about $27,000 worth of cocaine in Morristown, according to authorities.
