BYU coach says Utah, others will get ‘rude awakening’ on Big 12 physicality
By Kenny Lee, All Utes: The Big 12 will be adding a few former Pac-12 teams in 2024. They’ll be following in the shadows of BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF, who were invited to join the conference in 2021. There was widespread speculation that they would quickly become top contenders in the league, especially with Texas and Oklahoma’s impending departures. However, their first season in the Big 12 proved otherwise.
Across State Lines: Utah Removes Rodriguez as Coach
The expansion Utah Royals have had a rough go of their first season back in the NWSL. The Royals sit with a 2-11-2 record through 15 games, at the bottom of the NWSL standings with eight points. They’re ten points outside the eighth and final playoff berth in the league. With them as an expansion team, success likely wasn’t guaranteed to begin with, but the disappointing season has cost head coach, and former FC Kansas City and KC Current player, Amy Rodriguez her job. Rodriguez was removed from her first professional head coaching job. It certainly seems like a harsh decision given Utah’s roster in their expansion season.
