Roseburg’s Fir Grove Park Splash Pad remains open through Labor Day. A city release said Roseburg Parks and Recreation operates the free interactive spray park each summer from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. between Memorial Day and Labor Day. FORT UMPQUA DAYS HAPPENING OVER LABOR DAY WEEKEND
Elkton Community Education Center has its annual Fort Umpqua Days during Labor Day weekend, on Saturday August 31st and Sunday September 1st. An ECEC release said historic reenactors will set up camp on the grounds of Fort Umpqua, a life-sized replica of a Hudson’s Bay trading fort, to show what life was like in the Umpqua Valley in the mid-1800s. Guests can visit with trappers, press their own cider, enjoy kid’s activities and visit live animal exhibits. On Saturday, educators from the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians will be on site to teach people about Native American culture.

Grants Pass City Council Approves $2 Million Purchase for Washington Campus Redevelopment
In a unanimous decision on August 21, 2024, the Grants Pass City Council voted 8-0 to purchase 8.3 acres of land in northwest Grants Pass. This property, located along Washington Boulevard and Midland Avenue, with a portion fronting 6th Street, was acquired for $2 million. Known as the Washington Campus, the site was once home to a hospital and medical facilities. It now lies within the city’s Urban Renewal Area.
