Newport firefighters deployed to assist with Dixon Fire
Newport Fire Chief Rob Murphy and firefighter Kaden Keogh were deployed last week as members of Task Force 64 in Lincoln County to assist Douglas County with the Dixon Fire, burning near Canyonville in southwest Oregon. *Part one of this series detailed the investigation of the disappearance of Wilma Acosta, an unenrolled Pascua Yaqui woman who went missing in Portland in November. Portland police announced Acosta had “suicidal ideations,” despite repeated denials of that claim from Acosta’s family. Experts say such announcements are harmful. Her body was found in January along the Willamette River near Cathedral Park.

Body of missing Bend man found at Diamond Lake, family says
The body of a Bend man who went missing in Diamond Lake nearly a week ago was found Friday morning, his family confirmed. Chimanbai Patel, 37, was last seen alive Saturday. According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, friends said they were boating with Patel when he jumped into the lake and disappeared.

Oregon receiving over $35 million for salmon recovery efforts
