    TGN indoor winner nominated again for Track and Field Athlete of the Year

    The spring sports season has come to a close and Gardner-area track and field teams saw their share of successes and highlight moments. As we reflect on the season, it is also the chance to notice which individual athletes rose to the top, breaking through and excelling at their sport.

    These Gardner-area athletes are nominated for The Gardner News Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year for their talent and skill on the field throughout the season, contributing to their team and its success. Vote below in the poll for who you think deserves the title of Athlete of the Year. Fan voting will be factored into the decision and a winner will be announced at a later date.

    Jordan Baumann, Narragansett

    A freshman, The Gardner News Boys Indoor Track Athlete of the Year saw continued success into the spring season. Among Baumann's top finishes were a first-place performance in the high jump at the Mid-Wach E league meet. He also got two second-place finishes at the league meet, in the 110-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles and he grabbed fourth in the long jump.

    Baumann medaled at states, earning third place in the 110-meter hurdles. He was part of the 4x400 relay that came in seventh and took 11th in the long jump.

    Ari Cuevas, Gardner

    The senior had multiple strong performances for the Wildcats this season. In the Mid Wach D league meet, Cuevas finished first in the 400-meter hurdles, second as part of the 4x100 meter relay and 10th in triple jump.

    He also competed at states and got 24th place in the 400-meter hurdles.

    Benjamin Digman, Murdock

    Digman, a junior, was a dominant force for the Blue Devils this spring. At the Mid-Wach E league meet, he had multiple top performances, including first place in shot put, second in discus, fifth in the 4x100 relay and seventh in the 100 meters.

    At states, he finished in the top 20 in two events – 13th in shotput and 16th in discus.

    Colin Locke, Monty Tech

    The sophomore standout had a great showing at both the Mass. Vocational School championship meet and the Colonial Athletic League meet this spring.

    Locke took a fifth-place finish in the 800-meter run, ninth in the 4x400 relay and 11th in the mile at the vocational school meet. At the league meet, he finished seventh in the 800 meter and eighth in the mile.

    Travis Rusak, Oakmont

    The senior was a Division 5 and league champion and earned fifth place in the statewide meet this season. Rusak was dominant specifically in the javelin, breaking a 43-year school record with his throw of 182 feet, 9 inches. He also qualified for districts in discus and ran in the 4x100 relay. Rusak will be continuing his track and field career at Colgate University next year.

    Seth Twarog, Quabbin

    The senior finished his career this spring very decorated. Twarog was a Mid-Wach all-star and MVP. He totaled 15 first place finishes and two second place finishes in dual meets throughout the season.

    Some of his big wins include a sixth-place finish in the 400 meter at the District E Division 1 meet and a first place in the pole vault at the league meet. He also qualified for the state championship meet in six events and competed in three – 400-meter hurdles, 400 meter and 4x400 meter relay. Twarog will be competing at Springfield College next year.
