Last week, The Gardner News put out a vote to let readers have a say in the winner of The Gardner News Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year. The results of the poll, along with votes from the staff, were combined to decide the winner.

Seth Twarog of Quabbin track and field not only won the staff vote but earned 49.5% of the fan poll -- totaling 5,871 votes.

The senior captain was coming off a strong showing in the winter season, qualifying for the state meet and finishing sixth at the MIAA Div. 5 State Championship.

He completed his high school campaign this spring as a league all-star and MVP. His season included 15 first place finishes and two second place finishes over the course of dual meets in the regular season.

Twarog qualified impressively for six events for the state meet. The three he chose to compete were 400-meter hurdles, 400 meter and 4x400 meter relay.

He placed first in the pole vault at the league meet and sixth in the 400 meter at the District E Division 1 meet.

Twarog's track and field career is not over. For the 2024-25 season, he will be competing on the Springfield College men's team.
