RJ Harvey striving to be the big fish in a small pond of elite rushers
LAS VEGAS — Last season he emerged from the shadows, and produced a magnificent campaign with the Knights, but received no All-Big 12 consideration. RJ Harvey had every right to feel snubbed about the entire ordeal. After all, his 1,416 yards on the ground were the third-most in program history. Not to mention Harvey’s 16 rushing touchdowns tied for second for a UCF player.

Southern California's increasing demand for water has long wreaked havoc on the regions from where that water flows. As conservation progresses, though, there is still a long way to go. What's happening?. Joint projects by Inyo County and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power have helped partially restore...
A small company’s big summer: Carson Valley Community Theatre opens summer show and celebrates 20 years
Thanks to Artown and a slew of new arts organizations, events and venues that have launched in recent years, the Reno area is enjoying something of a cultural renaissance. But in some of Northern Nevada’s more rural communities, arts programming has traditionally been harder to come by. That’s why Carson Valley Community Theatre (CVCT), a small, upstart theater company in Minden, was founded 20 years ago.

Junkyard Gem: 2014 Nissan Leaf
After writing about nearly 3,000 discarded vehicles during the past 17 years, I've learned that it takes just over a decade for a new type of car to begin showing up in the big self-service boneyards (not counting unrecognizably crashed and/or burned ones). The first mass-produced battery-electric vehicles of the modern era hit American streets during the early 2010s, which means used-up examples can now be found in Ewe Pullet-type car graveyards. Here's one currently residing in Carson City, Nevada.

KamalaCare: Harris backed ‘Medicare for All’ and abolishing private insurance
Vice President Kamala Harris’s past support for “Medicare for All” places her well to the left of President Joe Biden and is likely to prove a liability for her as she seeks to win the 2024 presidential race. As senator from California, Harris supported Sen. Bernie Sanders’s (I-VT) Medicare for All plan, which would have […]

Entertainment critic Derek Sante checks out Twisters, Those About to Die & The Mole
LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Blowing its way into theaters comes a remake of sorts with Twisters. Starring Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones, we follow a story very close to the original Twister film that starred Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton. This time around, though, we follow a woman who has lost a lot and a man who wrangles tornados for digital views. And while this film's story isn't really new, the movie is still a fun ride with a lot of personality. Grade B from me.
