BLM and Garfield County continue sparring match over Hole-in-the Rock Road. Last summer, a new symbol highlighting the longstanding roads dispute between Garfield County and the Bureau of Land Management sprouted at the entrance to Hole-in-the-Rock Road (HITR), east of Escalante, Utah. A four-foot by eight-foot reflective yellow sign warns HITR travelers to “Use at Your Own Risk,” further stating, “Necessary improvements have been restricted by Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument.” A phone number—with no additional clue as to whom one is calling—is provided for anyone seeking more information. It leads to the BLM’s Kanab Field office, home of the national monument’s headquarters.
Utah Food Bank Summer Food Service Program Provides Free Breakfast & Lunch to Garfield Co. Students, June 6 – Aug. 1
GARFIELD CO. – Even though school is out for the summer, students under eighteen in Garfield County can still receive breakfast and lunch through a new free summer meals program. Panguitch City Councilwoman Tracy Wright, and Panguitch Children’s Librarian Verlaine Spencer spearheaded the work to implement the program across the county and distribution began on June 6th and will last ten weeks, coming to an end on August 1st. Pick-up locations are the Panguitch City Library, the Bryce Canyon City Fire Department, and Escalante City Park.
