POMEROY - Multiple agencies from county, district, state, and federal agencies are responding to the Cougar Creek Fire and officials have ordered a Complex Incident Management Team which will transition with the current Type 3 Incident Management Team. The fire is approximately 10 miles southwest of Anatone, WA, and approximately 44 miles east of Walla Walla, WA.

Could one man’s giant collection of Americana put tiny Pomeroy on the map?
POMEROY, Garfield County — Jack Peasley pulled his midnight-blue Ram Big Horn into a highway turnout displaying a sun-bleached historical marker. The mayor of Pomeroy wanted to point out two barely visible footpaths cut into the grassy hills of sparsely populated southeastern Washington that represent a significant moment for the only incorporated town in Garfield County. It was here in early May of 1806 that Capt. Meriwether Lewis and Lt. William Clark camped along the well-trodden route of the nomadic Nez Perce (Nimiipuu people). The Nez Perce directed the explorers to the Snake River, according to the party’s account of its return from the Pacific.
