Elderly man reportedly drowns while swimming in Lake Hamilton
ARKANSAS, USA — The Garland County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that they recovered the body of a man from Lake Hamilton on Saturday afternoon. According to reports, at around 4:30 p.m., someone reported having seen a body in the Long Beach Point area of the lake and then called police to report it.
Jury finds Villager guilty of domestic battery
A Hot Springs Village man received a jail sentence and $2,500 fine for domestic battery on Tuesday, July 30 after a two-day Garland County Circuit Court jury trial. Gavin Arthur Kelsey, 39, had faced a felony charge of aggravated assault for allegedly attacking a girlfriend on Feb. 15, 2023. Courthouse records say that the victim’s doorbell camera recorded him approaching her home with a bottle of alcohol in hand and a semi-automatic Smith & Wesson pistol tucked in his front waistband at 11:29 p.m. Feb. 15, 2023.
CAMCAC receives $50,00 grant for program that protects children from abuse, bullying and exploitation
The Arkansas Commission on Child Abuse, Rape and Domestic Violence (ACCARDV), a statewide organization based at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), recently awarded more than $630,000 to 11 organizations for projects aimed at preventing child abuse and neglect. Cooper-Anthony Mercy Children’s Advocacy Center in Benton and Hot Springs, which provides essential services to abused children, received $50,000 to continue an elementary school program in Saline, Garland, Grant and Montgomery counties.
HS man leads authorities on cross-county pursuit in stolen vehicle
A Hot Springs man was taken into custody across county lines Sunday afternoon after authorities pursued him as he fled in an allegedly stolen vehicle. Terry Wayne Britain, 40, who gave his address as “city streets” when apprehended, was arrested shortly after the pursuit ended and charged with one felony count of residential burglary and one felony count of fleeing in a vehicle. Britain is also being charged with misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and criminal trespassing.
