Flower Mound recognizes newest hometown hero
Command Sgt. Maj. Michael A. Castro, born in Flower Mound, has been named the town's newest Hometown Hero. Castro joined the Army in June 2004, completing basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C., and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Eustis, Va. He specialized as an Apache AH-64D armament, electronics and avionics systems repairer.

Police arrest suspect in fatal shooting of 44-year-old, Dallas officials said
DALLAS — Dallas Police arrested a man in connection with a fatal shooting Sunday, according to a press release. Officers responded to a shooting call at 9 p.m. Sunday in the 9800 block of Bruton Road, police said. When officers arrived, they found 44-year-old Keeman Bowens shot, the release states. He died at the scene.

Box truck fuel spill blocks I-35E lanes through Dallas
DALLAS — A box truck crash and fuel spill blocked several southbound lanes of Interstate 35E near the U.S. 67 split in Dallas early Monday, officials said. Several lanes were cleared by 7 a.m., but the incident was still causing traffic backups as crews worked to clean the fuel from the roadway.
Flash flooding closed portion of I-635 in Dallas
DALLAS – Flash flooding Monday morning caused a portion of I-635 to shut down. Westbound I-635 at Garland Road in Dallas was shut down because it was completely flooded. Between 1.5 and 4 inches of rain fell in a three-hour time frame on Monday.Two vehicles were disabled in the middle of the road. At one point, water was up to the windshield of the vehicles.As of 9 a.m. Monday, far right lanes were getting by while crews were working in the road.Texas Department of Transportation cameras showed traffic backed up about five miles. Delays were an estimated hour and a half. Alternate routes included Northwest Highway.
