High heat is breaking Inland Empire records
A record high was reported in Palm Springs, and a heat advisory was in effect from Monday until Wednesday in the Inland Empire, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures will be between 99 and 107 in the Riverside and San Bernardino county valleys and Inland Empire, with nighttime highs expected in the low 70s on Monday.
U.S. Border Patrol Indio agents seize 92 pounds of cocaine
INDIO – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Sector arrested two United States citizens attempting to smuggle 92 pounds of cocaine. According to a press release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, on Monday, July 15 at approximately 2:50 p.m., a white SUV approached the U.S. Border Patrol Highway 86 immigration checkpoint. During the primary inspection, a Border Patrol K-9 detection team alerted to the presence of concealed people or drugs.

Blaze Damages San Jacinto Home, Displacing Occupants
A fire that erupted Tuesday in the attic of a San Jacinto home caused damage that displaced the occupants, who escaped uninjured. The blaze was reported just before 10 a.m. in the 22000 block of Las Palmas Court, just east of the Soboba Springs Golf Course, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

San Jacinto Man Who Killed Friend After Slap Sentenced
A convicted felon who gunned down a 39-year-old San Jacinto man after the victim slapped him during an argument was sentenced Monday to 42 years to life in state prison. A Riverside jury in May convicted Melvin Mario James Landry, 42, of San Jacinto of second-degree murder for the slaying of Gilbert Wah in 2020. Along with murder, the panel convicted Landry of sentence-enhancing gun and great bodily injury allegations.

Juvenile Suspect Arrested, Accused of Multiple Stabbings
A suspect described only as a juvenile was arrested in connection with a stabbing attack in Desert Hot Springs that left one person dead and another wounded. Officers responded around 9:30 p.m. Friday to reports of a physical altercation near the intersection of Two Bunch Palms Trail and Nahum Drive, where they found two people with stab wounds, according to the Desert Hot Springs Police Department. Paramedics pronounced one dead at the scene, and the other was taken to a hospital in unknown condition.
