ON 7/9/24 at approximately 1651 hours Troopers from the Maryland State Police McHenry Barrack responded to New Germany Road, south of Twin Churches Road, Grantsville, Garrett County, Maryland, for a motor vehicle collision. Upon arrival Troopers discovered a Toyota Tacoma pickup off of the northbound side of the roadway, into a wooded area. Also at the scene was a Freightliner utility truck parked in a gravel area, off the travel portion of the roadway. The driver of the Toyota truck, James Thomas Shillingburg III of Ridgely, WV was entrapped and subsequently pronounced deceased by paramedics of the Northern Garrett Rescue Squad. The driver of the Freightliner, Charles Meyers, of Sharpsburg, MD was not injured. The preliminary investigation revealed that the Toyota truck being operated by Shillingburg was traveling southbound on New Germany Road and the Freightliner truck being operated by Meyers, was traveling northbound.
