Every time you see an inspector enter a restaurant you're dining in, your mind begins to wonder. I am sure we all do that, which is why it's important to stay updated with the latest Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation reports.
With a keen eye for restaurant inspection reports, I've delved into the latest reports from Brevard County, Florida. What I found might cause some diners to pause before choosing their next meal out.
What The Latest Inspections Revealed: In the past 30 days, Brevard County health inspectors have been busy, visiting 147 restaurants across the area. While 111 establishments passed their initial inspections, a total of 36 didn't make the grade on the first try.
With Brevard County's population estimated at 643,979 in 2023, according to the United States Census Bureau, plus a steady stream of visitors, there's no shortage of hungry patrons looking for a good meal.
But which restaurants are keeping their kitchens up to snuff?
Restaurants With The Most Violations
Topping the list is Spiro's Kouzina in Melbourne. On July 12, inspectors found a notable 32 violations, including five high-priority issues. Most noteworthy was the presence of "live, small flying insects in kitchen, food preparation area, food storage area and/or bar area."
A follow-up visit on July 15 saw improvements but still warranted another inspection.
Not far behind was Titusville's Beef O' Brady's, racking up 30 violations on July 2, with six high-priority infractions. While this restaurant met standards in a July 3 callback, 11 basic violations remained.
Three other restaurants hit the 20-violation mark or higher: Shark Pit Bar and Grill (23 violations), Twisted Biscuit Cafe (22), and Breakfast in Havana (20). All three managed to meet inspection standards before inspectors left.
Other notable mentions include another Beef O' Brady's location with 19 violations, Apollo Diner and Steve's Family Diner tied at 18 each, and several establishments hovering in the mid-teens.
It's worth noting that these inspections are snapshots in time.
