Old Greg's Pizza, a beloved Miami pizza joint known for its sourdough crust, has closed its Design District location indefinitely but plans to reopen at a new site in the future, its owners said.

The restaurant, founded by Miami natives Greg Tetzner and Jackie Richie in 2020, had become a local marvel, earning praise from publications like Time Out and the Miami New Times.

However, Richie told the New Times that the restaurant's lease was up and the terms and location were no longer viable for the vision they have for the growing operation.

"Our operation would be stunted of growth and safety [had we renewed]," Richie explained. "We would need to gut the restaurant entirely: electric, layout, and plumbing.

"They are going to redevelop where our building is, so it didn't make financial sense to continue here. We just need to expand the operation and sustain growth in a safe space."

Prior to announcing the closing, Old Greg's Pizza had a 3.8-star rating from 324 Google reviews.

Ken Tannenbaum, a local guide, shared on Google Reviews:

Great and creative pizza. Try the Cukes and potato salad for phenomenal creation. Some of the pies on the menu are there for only a period of time; for example currently there is a French Onion pizza.

Despite the closure, Tetzner and Richie said they are actively searching for a new location and plan to keep their loyal customers updated on developments starting next week.

The couple vowed that this is not the end of Old Greg's Pizza, and they intend to come back.

"We will never forget how we felt the moment we were informed we won 'Best Pizza in Miami' in New Times," Richie said. "We are so lucky and grateful."
