As summer continues to sizzle, restaurant inspectors in Alachua County are turning up the heat on local eateries. Recent inspections in the Florida county have revealed many violations, which may be leaving diners to wonder: Is their favorite spot making the grade?

In a county home to an estimated 285,994 residents, according to the United States Census Bureau 2023 report, plus countless visitors, the importance of food safety can't be overstated. Yet, recent reports show that several popular establishments are struggling to meet the mark.

    Highlighted Restaurants With Most Violations

Suki Hana and Wok A Holic, a Gainesville spot, top the list of restaurants with the most infractions, with a notable 26 violations during an August 12 inspection by the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation.

Eight of these were high-priority infractions, raising serious concerns about food handling practices. While a follow-up visit on August 14 showed improvement, the restaurant still needs another inspection to clear its name.

Not far behind, El Patio in High Springs, Ocean Buffet in Gainesville, and New York Pizza Plus in Alachua each tallied 20 violations.

"It's a wake-up call for both restaurateurs and diners," says a local resident. "Summer heat can heighten food safety issues."

Meanwhile, other notable restaurants highlighted include Scuola 2 with 18 violations, Kinya with 17, and ANF Gyros and Grill with 16.

While some establishments have addressed their issues in follow-up inspections, others remain under scrutiny. As the summer dining season continues, health officials urge restaurants to step up their game and diners to stay informed.
