Antonio's Made In Italy, a popular Italian restaurant in Marion County, was ordered to close temporarily following a routine food inspection by the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation.

The restaurant, located at 22050 N. US 441 in Micanopy, FL, was cited for 11 violations, including two high-priority infractions that contributed to the temporary closure.

According to state records, the initial inspection was conducted on August 23, and it revealed 2 high-priority infractions, 4 intermediate violations, and 5 basic violations.

Among the notable violations were rodent activity, unfitting food handling, and a lack of necessary certifications for employees. As a result, Antonio's Made In Italy was instructed to stop operations until the violations were corrected.

A follow-up inspection the same day resulted in the restaurant meeting inspection standards. However, a subsequent callback review on August 24 identified two intermediate violations, mandating another follow-up inspection.

The initial August 23 inspection revealed high-priority violations that included rodent activity, evidenced by droppings discovered in various areas of the kitchen, and unsuitable handling of ready-to-eat food.

Additionally, intermediate violations pointed to a lack of certified food managers and insufficient handwashing facilities.

Meanwhile, basic violations included unclean conditions, such as grease buildup near containers and unsuitable storage of personal items in food prep areas.

The restaurant's overall Google rating stands at 4.4 stars from 588 Google reviews, reflecting a balance of customer experiences amid these recent challenges.

A long-time customer named Angelina Somoracki, revealed her most recent experience on Google Reviews:

We have been eating here for around 8 years, but after our recent visit won’t be returning for a while. Food/ingredient quality is declining and they are very under-staffed. Hoping it turns around.

Antonio's Made In Italy, which opened in September 2013, is known for its authentic Italian cuisine and house-made specialties.
