A young girl who was hit by a car outside a Navarro Discount Pharmacy in Miami on Monday has sadly passed away, according to Local 10 News. Seven-year-old Stephanie Figueredo, the report said, surrendered to her injuries after several days of fighting for her life.

    The Sad News Confirmed

"Our beloved Stephanie has sadly passed away," the family revealed on GoFundMe.

The accident occurred at 2120 SW 32nd Ave. off Coral Way, where Stephanie was walking with her mother. A 92-year-old driver reportedly confused the gas and brake pedals, causing her red SUV to run over the child, police said.

Witnesses rushed to the scene to assist the injured child, lifting the SUV off of Stephanie before emergency services arrived.

Stephanie was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center in for prompt treatment, where medical staff fought to save her life. Despite their best efforts, the young girl surrendered to her injuries days later.

The family, in a final act of generosity amidst their grief, has decided to donate Stephanie's organs.

    What Next For The Driver?

Meanwhile, the driver, who has been cited for the crash, may face further legal action. Local 10 reports that Stephanie's family is calling for charges to be brought against the elderly woman responsible for the accident.

Miami police spokesperson Mike Vega had earlier described the seriousness of Stephanie's condition, noting she had suffered head and pelvic injuries. The sad outcome has left the community in shock and mourning.

This gloomy event has reignited discussions about road safety and elderly drivers in Florida. Stephanie's father, Joany Figueredo, expressed his desire to raise awareness about the potential risks of elderly individuals operating vehicles.

"I want to bring awareness to the fact that elderly people driving is dangerous. Someone needs to do something," he said on WSVN 7 News. "This was a traffic ticket, it was an accident."

Beyond sad that this child died. Elderly ppl should not be driving. It’s commonplace for these accidents to occur in Florida. The DMV needs to regulate and remove drivers that have reached a certain age. This child’s death cannot be in vain.
